A diamonds weight is measured in carats with one carat being the equivalent
to 100 points. Diamonds that are smaller than one carat can be referred
to in different ways, all with the same meaning. For example, a
0.25ct diamond can also be referred to as a 1⁄4 (quarter)
carat or a “25 pointer” . Diamonds that weigh very small
amounts such as 0.01ct and 0.05ct are commonly referred to as “one
pointer” and “5 pointers”.
When diamonds are mined, large gems are discovered much less frequently
than small ones, which makes the larger diamonds far more valuable.
In general, diamond prices rise exponentially with carat weight.
So a 2-carat diamond will cost far more than twice that of a 1-carat
diamond of the same quality.

they do represent the increase in proportion between each
